What is Acupuncture and what type of conditions can it address?
Acupuncture is a medical modality of Eastern medicine, rooted and developed in China dating back over 6000 years. It can be used to treat a wide variety of physical, emotional, and mental health conditions. As a catalytic pivot in jumpstarting our body's natural healing processes, Acupuncture works to re-balance and optimize the body's metabolic, biochemical, and neurological systems by increasing blood and fluid circulation to address physical blockages in the body which you may experience as physical pain; emotional and mental blockages; hormonal imbalances; general growth and development inefficiencies; and more.
The beauty of Eastern Medicine lies in that, by balancing the body's energy and improving circulation, it addresses the root of the pathology of disease(s). You may find that while you are seeking treatment for a main complaint, secondary issues may be resolved as well.
Acupuncture and other Eastern medicine modalities have proven to be a strong healing component for the modern, holistic health-conscious population. Its therapies are effective for anyone, from infants to elderly, seeking balanced wellness. Its adaptability allows it to be the leading "Ancient Medicine for the Modern World".

Other healing concepts and modalities that fall under Acupuncture + Eastern medicine include:
-
Dry Needling
-
Herbal therapy and Food as Medicine
How should I prepare for an Acupuncture treatment?
For your initial consult with FW, you'll need to have completed the New Patient paperwork.
It is advisable to have eaten and hydrated at least 2 hours before your scheduled appointment.
It is advisable to wash up/shower before your scheduled acupuncture appointment. We are a fragrance-free facility, so please avoid applying any fragrances prior to your appointments.
Be sure to wear loose, comfortable attire.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Today's acupuncture needles are as thin, or even thinner than, a hair on your head. Upon insertion, you may feel a sharp pinch that's not any more uncomfortable than a mosquito bite. This sensation does not last. During or after insertion, you may feel a dull, "cramping" sensation which in Chinese medical terms is known as De Qi. It is this sensation that we are seeking, the arrival of your body's Qi to the site of needle insertion. In Western medical terms, it is the body's histamine reaction to the needle stimulation which increases blood circulation and the firing of neurotransmitters and neurochemicals throughout the body. The dull, achy sensation may last until and/or, for a brief period, beyond the treatment.
What can I expect during and after an Acupuncture treatment? How many treatments do I need?
In an initial consult, the practitioner and patient go over the patient's current and past medical history; assess the current condition of the patient and his/her main complaints that he/she would like to be addressed; then, the practitioner formulates an individualized treatment prescription to achieve the best and desired results for the patient based on her/his goals.
During the acupuncture treatment, the practitioner administers acupuncture and any other modality fitting with the treatment principle. The patient can expect to rest for 15-25 minutes on the treatment table to allow the body to respond to the treatment and re-balance itself accordingly.
After an acupuncture treatment, the practitioner may prescribe an herbal prescription, diet and nutrition prescription, and/or exercises in line with the treatment goals. The practitioner will also review your treatment plan, including estimated number of treatments to achieve the goal in order to see, feel and maintain a noticeable and significant change.
It is advised that you keep your body covered up, avoid showering, and avoid exerting too much energy for 24 hours following treatment so as to not counteract effects from the treatment.
